Katie Skelly
Katie Skelly has been riding for over 20 years. She began on her aunt's horse farm in Western New York riding western. Upon moving to Virginia, she stepped into the middle of horse country and began riding English. All through middle and high school she rode primarily Hunters and Equitation. She competed heavily in the 3' Children's and Adult Hunter divisions at shows such as HITS Culpeper, Upperville and Rose Mount. Katie also competed in AIRC (similar to IEA today), following that she attended Virginia Intermont College where she minored in Equine Management and competed on the VI IHSA team. Aside from college ridging, she transitioned to riding her horse primarily jumpers. She competed through the 3'6" Adult Jumpers. After retiring her long time partner, her new horse took in the realm of dressage and eventing where she has spent the last 5 years, competing through First level Dressage as Training Level Eventing. Over the last few years she has taken on judging and co-leading a local 4-H club to have an impact on the next generation of young riders at the grass root levels. Time and dedication have gotten her to where she is today with numerous judging certifications from Virginia Horse Show Association, Open Horse Show Association (Level 3 Judge), North Carolina State University Judge's Certification and Penn State Judge's Certification. She has years experience in judging hunters, jumpers, western, gaited, driving, open and 4-H shows. She continues her passion and you can see her almost any weekend in the judge's box, on the cross country field or coaching her 4-H club hippology team.
