Notice that girl taking pictures at the shows? Well that is Silver Star's very own Karen Jasinski a Professional Photographer! Karen has 10 years of Photographic experience. Study Phtotography at the The Art Institute of Philadelphia earning an Associates Degree in Photography. While in school in Philly Karen interened for Phil Kramer(http://www.pkphoto.com/ ) and Mimi Janosy(http://www.mimiprophoto.com/). After school Karen moved back to Va to blend her passsion for horses and photography together!

Gearing up for our next horse show this Saturday!

Reminders:
**Please have a current Negative Coggins with you to present to the show staff at time of registration!! Failure to have a current negative coggins will result in the denied showing of said horse and immediate removal from the grounds of said horse!

**Show starts at 3PM!!! that's right 3PM!

** Robin Wood is Judging!

Hard hats are required for all riders under 18 years of age in English classes!

Casual show attire, Polo shirts and riding breeches(with tall boots) in English classes. Youth exhibitors may show in jodpurs with paddock boots). Jeans with a button down shirt for western classes. Chaps are optional in Western classes. And youth exhibitors may show in a hard hat instead of cowboy hat in western classes.

KJ Photography will present at the shows to take pictures upon request only! You may see her walking around shooting some stock images for Silver Star, but please feel free to approach her and ask about shooting you and your horse during the show!

Coggins Tests in Virginia/Updated regulations...Please bring Negative coggins test to shows!

Would just like to inform everyone to please bring your COGGINS with you to the next show on June 11th(and every show thereafter), even if we have a copy on file. The state now requires shows to have a record info. from every horse's coggins shown at shows. We will need to copy all info. required by the state from your coggins... so signing up for classes may take longer than usual, so please bare with us!

You should always carry your coggins with you when hauling your horse(s) anywhere, but we would just like to remind everyone of the new regulations put in place this year regarding Equine Infectious Anemia and extra steps they are taking now to keep this disease under control.

On April 6th Dr. Stanford of Woodside Equine Clinic confirmed that Maggie (CES Genuine Artist) is in foal to AQHA/APHA stallion Just Expect It(http://www.rosenfeldtqh.com/justexpectit.html) for a March 2012 foal! Can't wait to see what the cross brings!

On April 8th we welcomed Snickers, a new Boarder, to the farm! Pic coming soon!

During the first week of Jan. we welcomed Pedro to the farm, proudly owned by Vickie Condon.

Had a small litter of Corgi puppies on the 5th.

And Desmond found a new home in Pa with Tipson Myers. Congrats on your purchase and we just can't wait to see you two in the show ring this spring!

We here at Silver Star we'll be going thru some renovations over the winter, we hope to see everyone this Spring at the begining of our 2011 show season. Yesterday we lost a horse, a boarders horse, to what the vets believe to be Mellanomas(skin cancer) on and around the mare's head and began to put pressure on her brain in which caused her to have balance issues Friday evening. It was a tough decision but the right one in the end.

The following pictures were taken between Dec. 19th and Dec. 20 2009 of the massive SNOW storm we got! Not sure exactly how much snow we got. Let's just say that in some places were we're supposed to have a 4 board fence we have 3 or boards showing! at least 18 to 20 inches and again with the drifts deeper in some, less in others.

The horses were stalled friday night when it began and stayed in until Sunday morning when the snow finally stopped. We haven't seen snow like this in years! And usually never this early. Normally our snow comes in late Jan. or Feb. and even then we usually only get a few inches(4+/- inches).

It's been very exciting to see the snow and also alot of hard work around the farm. The dogs are having fun too. Or I should say the Corgis are loving it! While Charlie, the Boston Terrier and Cosmo, the Chichihua, could care less and perfer not to spend too much time in the white fluffy stuff, straight to the barn and stay there until its time to go back in the house.

The first few pictures are of the NEW Field Boarder, Cookie. She arrived a week ago and has been in a private paddock to get to know everyone safely over the fence (in addition to wooden fence is two lines of electric). Today was her first time to meet everyone up close and go out with everyone. All went well... Susie is the only who doesn't seem to like her. Raven is in love even though Cookie is a mare. Maggie, Mandy, and Maverick could care less.

They did take a lap around the pasture and then all went to graze the rest of the day while we piled up wood! The rest are pictures of the goats and sheep and perhaps a piggy pic in there somewhere, as well as a nice protrait of Ms. Lexi and her favorite toy(the ball) and Atila the crazy cat that acts like a dog most days!

The following is a Photo Blog of the burning of the deck wood that used to go around our "Food Booth" for the horse shows. The trailer was sold and removed in Oct. and we have been slowing taking down the decking. Another part of this project is converting the old original Food Booth building into a leantoo for the main pasture. Today we managed to remove most of the deck... just two small section left to take out and burn.

I know I haven't posted anything in awhile... sorry.

Everyone is doing well on the farm! Can't believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Where does the time go?! Larry(Marsha's Better half) celebrated his birthday yesterday, so Happy Birthday Larry!

I went to the Daughtry concert last night in Charlottesville with Vickie, Julie, Pam, Lynn and Monique. It was alot of fun. Managed to sneak up to side stage seating after the 2nd opener (Theory of a Deadman) before the guys came on!

We have baby goats galore! Seems like last week was the week to have babies! Pictures coming soon!

Maggie is coming along in her first pregnancy. We had a few bouts with some minor gas colic the last few days. But she seems to pass it and feels better about mid day with the help of some banamine. Hopefully this will not continue!

And lastly before I go out the take some pictures... I'd like to wish all our friends GOOD LUCK who are showing in Herdon this weekend at the VQHA Pre-Turkey Circuit!

It's Official... Maggie's IN FOAL!

We found out on Aug. 25th that "Maggie" (CES Genuine Artist) is in fact in foal to "Junior" (Zippos Goldn Mover, http://www.triplejna.com/). Due Date is April 26th, 2010.

Maggie is an own daughter of World Champion Indian Artifacts(http://www.whatiwork4.com/), one the top HUS stallions in the nation. Indian Artifacts by by the great Artful Move (http://www.artfulmove.com/) also a World Champion and Leading Sire of HUS horses in AQHA. She was not broke to ride due to an injury she had when she was a weanling. She has arthritis as a result and not sure she could handle the physical demands of training.

We are very excited to see what comes as a result this great pairing. I have had much success with crossing my TB mare and Maggie's Dam, Raven (A Genuine Shot) to Junior twice before now. Junior sires good minded, correct foals.

Maggie's 2 YO half bro, Jack, and son of Junior is broke under saddle and being shown WP in 4-H in Pa. He stands 16 Hands at just 2 yrs old!!!! WOW! See older post of Jack below.

Hey Everyone,

It's been a long time since I've posted anything... it's been a busy past couples months.

Our evening show series was VERY successful. We had a very good turn-out at most(if not all) of the shows. We would like to thank ALL of our Exhibitors for coming out and supporting our shows this summer! THANK YOU!

We will continue to have our Evening Show Series next summer starting Mid-June and we have plans of perhaps having evening shows on the weekends (Fri. or Sat. nights) to replace our Sunday shows. They would start in the afternoons and go on into the evening. Suggestions welcome!

Though it was a very small show in attendance, we believe all in attendance got tons of useful information and tips from the Judge (Ms. Kate Higgins) on ways to improve their horsemanship and go on to have very successful 2009 show season.

Above is a picture of the First Family with their new puppy, Bo, a 6 mos old Portuguese Water dog. We would like to Congrat them on their newest family member.

Few of you probably know that LLOONNGG before we had horses and sheep, we bred and showed dogs, Saint Bernard's (pictures and blog on them coming soon) and Portuguese Water dogs, Beau and Libby. Our Professional Handler and my mom won many Best Of Breed Titles with both, up and down the East Coast at dog shows in the mid to late 80s.

I think it's cute that growing up I had a black and white Porti named Beau. And now the First Family has a Porti Bo. ...wonder if he's related to ours... something to look into?!

After having the winter off, due to too many outside commitments, He is back in training and we hope to be ready for the 2009 CVPHC Futurity show this Oct. in the Jr. Horse classes. WP, HUS, and Halter. We have some work ahead of us but with time and lots hours in the saddle I didn't see why he wouldn't be a force to reckon with in the show pen really soon. In 2008 we had a few victories! We didn't show as mush as years past and tried to keep it more local. But here's is quick look at what we were able to do.

2008 Accomplishments include:

*Res. Champion Senior English at VAHA District IV Show Series: Karen Jasinski aboard Regrettably Rich, Owned by Vickie Mitchell.

*Top 5 Senior Exhibitor VAHA District IV- Karen Jasinski

*Res. Circuit Champion Open HUS at VQHA Fireworks Spectacular- Karen Jasinski aboard Regrettably Rich.

*Res. Circuit Champion Open WP at VQHA Fireworks Spectacular- Vickie Mitchell aboard RDS To The Max

*Top 5 Open Senior HUS VQHA Schooling show points Year End.

We look forward to another successful show season in 2009 abroad Regrettably Rich, RDS To The Max, and for his first year under saddle in the Junior Horse and 3YO classes C Maximum Trouble. And possibly more horses as training horses come into the barn!

Happy Birthday, Raven!

Today is Raven's (A Genuine Shot) 10th Birthday! It seems like just yesterday we found her on that very cold January morning in barn with her Dam(Mandy aka Special Arrow).

Raven has personality... that of a cat, most of the time. She likes attention when she wants it and the rest of the time you're better off leaving her alone. Ok, she's not that bad! But she's had her moments. She loves grooming time, she has many favorite places to be scratched and will definitely ham it up to anyone standing near her stall door for TLC or treats! Favorites being Peppermint candies and horse cookies!

Raven is presently 6 months along with her 3rd foal, by Zippos Goldn Mover (APHA stallion, http://www.triplejna.com/). We are keeping our fingers crossed for some color or LOTS of color! This foal has a full sibling, Jack (CES U Don't Know Jack), whom placed Res. Champion at the PA 4H State Horse Show in Yearling Gelding Halter!!!

I'm hoping for a filly this time, but as long as it's healthy and all I'm not too concerned. And like any true horse owner that thinks of their horses more like children than pets, I have already started thinking of Names. You have to plan ahead and have lots of options.
